And it is off to a new edition of the picnic giant “preppy” in the capital. This unmissable event was attended by 17,000 people – a record-last year, for its 30th anniversary. On June 3, 2018, the local residents of the Seventh arrondissement had seen to converge on the esplanade des Invalides the thousands of participants dressed in white. This Thursday 6 June, registrants will discover the place of the meal a few minutes before only at the end of a journey by stages transmitted via SMS, which will lead to closer and closer to the place desired, according to a well-established tradition.
Held without authorization, the Dinner in white has, however, a tolerance of the Prefecture of Police since its first edition in 1988, as a result of his organization is quasi-military and a code of good manners which excludes beer and strong alcohol, requiring guests that they will leave with the remains of their unusual banquet. The dinner, by co-optation under the sign of the art of living and conviviality is organized without a priori on the guests (not VIP). Only obligations, to be sponsored by one of the participants of the previous edition and stand properly. The charter of the diners in white is formal: “In case of non-compliance with any of these points, you will not be able to re-enroll in any other dinner!”.
The concept is exported now in 90 cities: New York, Bangkok, Sydney, Copenhagen, Kuala Lumpur, Rio, and, for the first time this year, The Havana, in the gardens overlooking the sea from the hotel Nacional.
In Paris, many iconic locations are home to the famous dinner. The guests are already installed at the time of an evening place de la Concorde, in the Tuileries gardens, and the Palais-Royal, on the cross-aisles of the Champs-Elysées, at the foot of the Pyramid of the Louvre, place Vendôme or still on the parvis of the Hotel de Ville. What will be the spot this year? Patience…
