The factory FCA (FiatChrysler Automobiles) of Melfi in Italy, began preparations for the production of the Jeep Renegade plug-in Hybrid (PHEV, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle, in English) the marketing of which is scheduled for the beginning of 2020. This version will be produced in parallel to those embarking only a thermal engine, that will be always offered by the manufacturer.
With more than 742 000 units produced in Italy, the success of the Renegade has made the guinea pig ideal to launch the strategy for the electrification of the group FCA. It is, however, not the only plug-in hybrid which will be launched in 2020, as the legendary Jeep Wrangler will be electrified in the same way.
to meet european standards more stringent, the electrification is a passage that it is difficult to work around. FCA plays on the variety, and wishes to provide 100% electric vehicles, hybrids, plug-in hybrids and “mild” hybrids (mild hybrid).
The group FCA intends to remain logical in its policy of electrification, and especially want to not misrepresent its models. The minivan Chrysler Pacifica is available in plug-in hybrid, while a leisure vehicle like the Dodge RAM 1500 is simply a mild hybrid, called the “e-Torque”.
