This should motivate many apprentices to stylists to try their luck. Martin Margiela, the most famous (and most copied) of the anonymous, joined this year by the jury of Andam. The Belgian is the first designer to have won the grand prize, in 1989 (the name Andam has been filed in 1990). “In 1990, Nathalie Dufour discovered to my second parade a vest-object made with pieces of broken plates,” he says in the press release. Understanding that recycling will be the basis of a specific collection, it has the idea of creating the prize of the Andam to help the young creation. I am the first to receive it and this acknowledgement allows me to fund the beginnings of my “artisan’s workshop” and start its marketing; this collection will incorporate the calendar of haute couture in 2006. I will never forget how much that price has counted for my development and I express to him my deep gratitude. I am also pleased to see today the increased radiation of the Andam. Happy birthday!”

The modalities of its participation remain to be defined. However, no chance to see Mr. Margiela at the awarding of the four prizes in front of the cameras. We’re talking about a videoconference, or a telephone call during deliberations on the 27th of June, in Paris.

This edition 2019 is celebrating the 30th anniversary of this fashion contest, created by the French Nathalie Dufour, and today chaired by Guillaume Houzé, director of image and communication at Galeries Lafayette. Renzo Rosso is the new president of the jury (he had held this position in 2013). The Italian, at the head of the group OTB (Marni, Diesel, Viktor & Rolf) is also the owner of Maison Margiela since 2002. Martin Margiela, who left his mark in 2009, the artistic direction is provided by John Galliano.

The Belgian, disappeared from the radar of fashion for the past ten years, has contributed to exhibitions celebrating his career in 2018: Margiela / Galliera, 1989-2009 at the Palais Galliera, and Margiela, the years Hermes MAD.
